The gold coating on the plastic makes for a neutral flavored filtration. You will get a few more fines than with a paper filter.
However, when cleaning the filter, do not be tempted to put it in the dishwasher. The action of the metal cleaners in the detergent and an electroplating effect caused by other metals in the dishwasher (likeyour silverware) will remove the gold from the filter. Just wash it by hand with a few drops of dish detergent to remove coffee oils. This should last for years.
