(More customer reviews)After reading the only other review which was negative, I was worried about the coffee maker I'd just bought. However, it has worked perfectly every day for the last 3 weeks. It is remarkably inexpensive for a programmable maker. It smells so good to walk in the kitchen and hear the coffee finishing up each morning.I've never had a coffee make that did not require a little care to be sure the filter was not crooked but this one is actually easier than my last one which I gave my daughter.

(More customer reviews)I love coffee! Coffee, coffee & more coffee! For as long as I can remember, I have owned the basic, easy-to-use, bell and whistle-less Mr. Coffee Machine.

Early one morning, I was horrified to discover that the heating elment on my then current machine had committed suicide the night before. It was an ugly morning of bumping into walls and uttering quite a few ugly little sentences. Avid coffee drinkers will understand.

So I head over to the local "Linnens-and-Beyond" type place,(what exactly is the "beyond" part anyway?)and I found it. The basic, black, 12 cup, on/off, timer if I should ever decide to use it, under $30.00 Mr coffee. Yay! Oh the rejoicing!!

Until I got it out of the box. The horror! They had changed the design of my beloved basic machine!

It used to be that just the back water chamber lid opened. Now the whole top of the machine is lidded. The problem? I have to pull the machine all the way to the edge of the counter to pour the water in. Then I have to push the whole thing back after it is full. Splash!! Ok not so big a problem, right?
Wrong!! And now for the idiots of the world, they have introduced two sunflower seed sized holes on the back wall of the water chamber. I suppose this is so he chamber is not over-filled. Great. So any water that I may overpour goes all over the counter. Or when I push the machine back into place, the splashing water in the chamber comes out - you guessed it, all over the counter. Hey guys, thanks. What a brilliant idea.

Oh, did I mention that the pot itself is it's own little nightmare and a half. This pot spills, spills, spills and spills some more. When filling the chamber, it dribbles.When I am pouring a cup, it dribbles all over, you guessed it, my counter. Gee, I sure am getting sick of wiping up the counter.

Open up the top of this machine and you will find the filter basket which has above it, a pivoting water arm. Ths arm must be moved anytime the filter is to be removed or replaced. Did I mention I wanted basic? Why am I delaing with moving parts at 5am? Oh one more flaw with this design. Remember our dribbling special-ed pot? Well if any water you are pouring into the chamber hits the axis point of the pivoting arm (ooh fancy!), said water will dribble instantaneously onto the heating element below (where the pot sits). Yay! More to wipe up!

Ok, so the bottom line is, pass on this design. I don't know why the original design had to be changed, but change is not always a good thing.
The company should reimburse me for all the paper towels I have to use EVERY day.

I would like to see the machine go back to its previous design so I may be able to start my day NEATLY and happily with my oldest friend, Mr. Coffee.

(More customer reviews)Yes, you'll flinch when you see the price tag!Right now this is the king of super automatics.My work hours are all over the place and many times there is just no time to devote to pulling the perfect espresso from a manual or semi machine.Add to that I drink cappuccino's or lattes 95% of the time.This machine was made for those who drink mostly cappuccino's or lattes and it couldn't be easier.Many long time aficionados on the coffeegeek.com forums will tell you that you cannot pull anything close to a "god shot" from a super automatic and they are correct.But what you get is pretty darn good especially if you love the taste of espresso but don't want to devote your life to making perfect shots every pull.The Z5 is the model of simplicity and produces consistent very good shots of espresso and excellent latte's & cappuccino's every time with little time.I had this machine programmed, up and going just 10 minutes out of the box.I am not an expert on pulling shots manually.Setting the knob to the hottest setting, strongest espresso and finest grind yielded a very tasty shot that was far better than any I have had at Starbuck's.I used Coffee Emergency espresso roast.The crema was good and the temperature excellent.I used a Capressa S9 a year ago and was not happy with the temperature of the shots coming out of the machine.They are much improved on the Z5. Back to cappuccino's...Fill the milk thermos with your choice of milk...set knob to cappuccino and hit the button.A gorgeous cappuccino was produced on the very first try.I didn't have to move the cup...it was all automatic!It took me ages to learn to make a decent cappuccino onsame thing manually.Again...much better than at Starbuck's and any of the local coffee houses. The Z5 has a timer that can be set to turn the machine on and off when you want it to. Settings for water level, brewing time, amount of heated milk and foam, can all be pre set or adjusted with a knob live as your beverage is being made.The unit is whisper silent even when grinding beans.It is a well built piece of equipment that is UL approved for both residential and commercial use.I couldn't be happier with it.Should you get this machine? Bottom line is that if you want to make espresso's as a hobby and are going for that ultimate "god shot" every time don't even think about this machine.If you are a working professional who just wants a great cappuccino, latte and espresso with absolute minimum fuss that will beat Starbuck's and your local coffee shop.... think about buying this machine.

(More customer reviews)I bought a Zojirushi 1L carafe and was very happy with it.Then read in the instructions that there was an option to put a Manual Drip Filter Cone that could be used to make coffee directly into the carafe.I checked it out on Amazon but saw a lot of criticisms that gave me pause.But slowly I started checking them out one by one and found them either to be wrong or irrelevant.The most important criticisms that I saw was that the thing dripped too slowly and was structurally unbalanced.

One reviewer made the claim that their Melitta One cup cone had 4 holes and thus drained coffee quickly.I also own a Melitta one cup drip cone and found that (despite claims to the contrary) there is only one hole in that device and that did not prevent the Melitta one cup from making coffee in less 30 seconds

There was also a claim that Melitta's 10 cup Cone/Carafe would be better as it would be faster than this Manual Drip Coffee Cone.But I checked out the Melitta at a local Ace Hardware and again it only has one hole.Plus the thing is so wide it would be useless for the purpose of making coffee directly into my Zojirushi carafe.

So seeing how these two criticisms were factually inaccurate I bit the bullet and bought the cone and just received it two days ago.On initial inspection, I can see how someone could say it seems structurally unstable.But this thing has a small hollow cylinder jutting out from the bottom of the cone (not shown in in the picture) through which coffee drains (like a typical funnel).And when you insert this cylinder into the narrow neck of a carafe or thermos it is absolutely rock solid.On my Zojirushi, it is asif they were made for each other.If you needed to use this make coffee for a cup or mug then you probably are better off with the Melitta one cup cone.

I ground my beans extra fine for cone filters and it took 3 minutes to make 1L of great coffee.I don't know that may be way too long for some people (as others did not post times I can't say) but it's perfectly fine for me.So at least for me the claim of being too slow was just not true.

I can't wait until the weekend.I usually percolate a pot of coffee and read the paper and some books to pass away the morning before exercising and doing household chores.

It's been over half a year since I bought the cone and have nothing but good experiences with it.I like it so much I bought another so I could make a pot of coffee at work.I have noticed that with extremely fine ground coffee (where the grounds turn to mud in the filter), the drainage is slower but you can try stirring the grounds as it drains, putting in the filter at a 90 degree angle to keep the filter from sticking against the sides of cone.I've never had a persitant problem of slow drainage.In any case, every day I use this cone to make a litre of coffee.It takes me less than 10 minutes to grind the beans, make the coffee, cleanup and walk back to my desk where all my coworkers fight amongst themselves as to who gets to drink my coffee a litre goes pretty fast when you've got five people drinking it.

I don't claim that everyone will have this experience but as I said for someone who just wants a cup of coffee in the morning and some to share with friends, this has been a wonderful purchase.

(More customer reviews)I have never been one to spend a lot of money on coffeemakers in the past but I thought I would spend a little more this time and see if I could find a better quality one. I have not been disappointed. The FTXSS43 does a very good job of making a fine cup of coffee. The features I like best are the beep alert to let you know when the coffee is ready (which has a switch to turn it off if you don't want to hear it), the improved spout that doesn't drip when you pour a cup, the timer to start the coffeemaker automatically in the morning,the adjustable heat control for the warming plate, the LCD analog clock which puts out a pleasant glow and acts as a nightlight in the kitchen at night, the fact that the clock automatically turns into a timer to let you know how long the coffee has been made, and the most important, the good tasting coffee. The pot takes what I would call an average amount of time to brew and the stainless steel exterior is attractive and very easy to clean.

(More customer reviews)This is a great machine for the price!At first I was nervous because of the plastic feel, but it seems to be holding up really well.It is very quick to heat up.VERY quiet considering the ceramic grinder.It is given 4 stars because of how quickly the drip tray fills up (near the coffee grounds drawer) otherwise I would give this a 5 star rating.It has to be emptied once a day if you have used the machine a lot.We do because it has the awesome feature of sending out hot water with the spout just by pushing the water button and turing the knob on top.So we use this machine for hot tea too! Also the water tank is a little hard to get out.Maybe we are being too gentle with it, but you do just have to give it a little extra pull. The adjustable drip tray (in front) is great.I just make my latte to go in a travel mug.The ability to switch from frothing the milk - which is very fast - to immediately making the espresso it my favorite feature.

Overall this is an excellent machine, makes great espresso, easy to use, and looks great too!
