(More customer reviews)I love coffee! Coffee, coffee & more coffee! For as long as I can remember, I have owned the basic, easy-to-use, bell and whistle-less Mr. Coffee Machine.

Early one morning, I was horrified to discover that the heating elment on my then current machine had committed suicide the night before. It was an ugly morning of bumping into walls and uttering quite a few ugly little sentences. Avid coffee drinkers will understand.

So I head over to the local "Linnens-and-Beyond" type place,(what exactly is the "beyond" part anyway?)and I found it. The basic, black, 12 cup, on/off, timer if I should ever decide to use it, under $30.00 Mr coffee. Yay! Oh the rejoicing!!

Until I got it out of the box. The horror! They had changed the design of my beloved basic machine!

It used to be that just the back water chamber lid opened. Now the whole top of the machine is lidded. The problem? I have to pull the machine all the way to the edge of the counter to pour the water in. Then I have to push the whole thing back after it is full. Splash!! Ok not so big a problem, right?
Wrong!! And now for the idiots of the world, they have introduced two sunflower seed sized holes on the back wall of the water chamber. I suppose this is so he chamber is not over-filled. Great. So any water that I may overpour goes all over the counter. Or when I push the machine back into place, the splashing water in the chamber comes out - you guessed it, all over the counter. Hey guys, thanks. What a brilliant idea.

Oh, did I mention that the pot itself is it's own little nightmare and a half. This pot spills, spills, spills and spills some more. When filling the chamber, it dribbles.When I am pouring a cup, it dribbles all over, you guessed it, my counter. Gee, I sure am getting sick of wiping up the counter.

Open up the top of this machine and you will find the filter basket which has above it, a pivoting water arm. Ths arm must be moved anytime the filter is to be removed or replaced. Did I mention I wanted basic? Why am I delaing with moving parts at 5am? Oh one more flaw with this design. Remember our dribbling special-ed pot? Well if any water you are pouring into the chamber hits the axis point of the pivoting arm (ooh fancy!), said water will dribble instantaneously onto the heating element below (where the pot sits). Yay! More to wipe up!

Ok, so the bottom line is, pass on this design. I don't know why the original design had to be changed, but change is not always a good thing.
The company should reimburse me for all the paper towels I have to use EVERY day.

I would like to see the machine go back to its previous design so I may be able to start my day NEATLY and happily with my oldest friend, Mr. Coffee.

(More customer reviews)I have never been one to spend a lot of money on coffeemakers in the past but I thought I would spend a little more this time and see if I could find a better quality one. I have not been disappointed. The FTXSS43 does a very good job of making a fine cup of coffee. The features I like best are the beep alert to let you know when the coffee is ready (which has a switch to turn it off if you don't want to hear it), the improved spout that doesn't drip when you pour a cup, the timer to start the coffeemaker automatically in the morning,the adjustable heat control for the warming plate, the LCD analog clock which puts out a pleasant glow and acts as a nightlight in the kitchen at night, the fact that the clock automatically turns into a timer to let you know how long the coffee has been made, and the most important, the good tasting coffee. The pot takes what I would call an average amount of time to brew and the stainless steel exterior is attractive and very easy to clean.

Review of Mr. Coffee ISD13 12-Cup Replacement Decanter for FT and IS Series, Black

(More customer reviews)I ordered this replacement because the original one would leak from the black piece, water gets trapped in between the glass & the black top piece (not lid) and drips down the side after turning right side up after filling water tank. This replacement does the same thing so I believe it to be a manufacture flaw. This is the only replacement I have found to fit my coffee maker:(

(More customer reviews)I was surprised to find this at my local closeout store, and I just happened to be out of coffee filters and needed a basket style replacement so this fit the bill. Having only seen gold tone permanent filters my expecations were not too high. This particular filter was just slightly smaller than what I expected, however it performed perfectly and no water or coffee spilled over. I guess that's why they named it "Fitz All". I was pleasantly surprised at how nice and smooth the coffee tasted. The filter cleans up so easily, just rinse and set on top of your coffee maker until it's needed. No coffee residue remained anywhere in this filter, and the coffee did taste better than when I make it with the paper filter. Overall I'm very happy with this product and would buy it again.

(More customer reviews)The glass gets brittle over time and it eventually cracks in the sink. Buying a replacement decanter nearly costs the same as buying the whole coffee maker again, which is absurd. But I buy the replacement anyway to minimize waste.

(More customer reviews)We drink a lot of coffee in our home, actually at least three, sometimes more pots per day.We give a coffee maker, any coffee maker quite a work out.We also have water which has a very, very high mineral content.This causes problems with not only coffee makers, but water heaters and any other appliance that uses hot water.Now all that being said....

The coffee maker being reviewed here, the Mr. Coffee VB13 12-Cup Coffeemaker is what we refer to as our disposable maker.We go through one of these makers in about three or four months.There are two problems...the first being the hard water we use and the second being that this particular maker seems to have a very weak and fragile heating element.Between the convergence of these two factors they just do not last very long in our house.Of course neither do the more expensive makers; the more sophisticated ones...alas, their life is short.We clean this one with vinegar on a more than regular basis, keep it clean and do all the things we are suppose to do but to no avail.They eventually and inevitably either clog up or the heating element simply goes croakers.

This maker does have advantages though, the first being that it is extremely cheap.We pay no more than seventeen dollars at a local store for them.When you think about it, that is what about four cups of fancy coffee will cost you at a AstroBucks Coffee Shoppe.They, at first (the first couple of months) make a very nice cup of coffee and they make it extremely fast.They are simple; no whistle, bells, flashing lights, mini-screens telling you the date, time, year, phases of the moon, legal and illegal holidays, weather reports, your mother-in-laws birthday, and other useless information, and blessedly no timers that you are clueless as to how to use and set.No, just your basic on and off switch is all you have to contend with.It also has a feature that allows you to remove the container while a batch is brewing, pour your coffee, and replace it before it continues spewing out coffee. You can also make a fresh batch with little or no hassle and clean-up is almost nil.It should also be noted they these machines have nifty little water windows to prevent spillage, but as I slosh the stuff all over the place anyway, both water and coffee; making horrible messes, this is a moot point in my case. They will serve the average person of care quite well.

This is just what I need but alas, the quality is just not there.I suppose at this price you really should not expect all that much longevity but this aspect of this coffee maker forces me to give it only three stars.I suppose others might rate this higher due to its advantages, and others might rate it much lower due to its obvious lack of longevity and just as obvious poor workmanship, but I am going to split the difference here.I am not too fond of the star rating thing here anyway as it is way too subjective to meet my taste.

If you buy it, buy it for what it is...a cheap, simple coffee maker that you will probably not be able to pass down as a family heirloom.

Note:One of my many hobbies is collecting odd bits of metal, copper wire and such and selling it at the local salvage yard.As near as I can figure, between the copper wire in these things and the bits of metal, you can scrap one and receive about .75 cents, depending upon market fluctuations, and the glass container with its plastic handle is good for .25 cents at any garage sale...I have sold many of them.
