Review of Frieling USA Cilio Porcelain Filter Holder

***Final Update***I sent it back because the cracks spread around the bottom inside of the cone.Hoping I had received a rare lemon, I replaced it with the same model. The second one I received had a ridge of un-glazed ceramic running halfway around the upper rim; this ridge was rough and sharp enough to cut fingers.I've concluded that quality control is poor for this item and I've changed brands to the less expensive model available on this site.

Also note that nowhere on the packaging or the item is the place of manufacturing stated.***UPDATE***I've taken off a star because tiny cracks in the glazing are already starting to form inside the cone in one bottom corner.I have treated this like a baby the ONE WEEK that I've had it.If it gets any worse, I'll ship it back!Being able to control the temperature and the flow of the water makes a MUCH better pot of coffee than any of the electric drippers.

This cone has one hole.Mine sits securely on top of a 4 cup Mr.Coffee carafe or a large coffee mug.Very stable. The Melitta #4 filters fit perfectly. Flow is just right with store bought and home-ground coffee.

My only misgiving is the linguine-thin handle. The ceramic is otherwise as solid as a coffee mug, and the handle should be thick too.

Review of RSVP Maunual Drip Coffee Filter Cone for Carafes or Thermos

RSVP Maunual Drip Coffee Filter Cone for Carafes or Thermos

I bought a Zojirushi 1L carafe and was very happy with it.Then read in the instructions that there was an option to put a Manual Drip Filter Cone that could be used to make coffee directly into the carafe.I checked it out on Amazon but saw a lot of criticisms that gave me pause. But slowly I started checking them out one by one and found them either to be wrong or irrelevant. The most important criticisms that I saw was that the thing dripped too slowly and was structurally unbalanced.

One reviewer made the claim that their Melitta One cup cone had 4 holes and thus drained coffee quickly.I also own a Melitta one cup drip cone and found that (despite claims to the contrary) there is only one hole in that device and that did not prevent the Melitta one cup from making coffee in less 30 seconds

There was also a claim that Melitta's 10 cup Cone/Carafe would be better as it would be faster than this Manual Drip Coffee Cone. But I checked out the Melitta at a local Ace Hardware and again it only has one hole.Plus the thing is so wide it would be useless for the purpose of making coffee directly into my Zojirushi carafe.

So seeing how these two criticisms were factually inaccurate I bit the bullet and bought the cone and just received it two days ago.On initial inspection, I can see how someone could say it seems structurally unstable. But this thing has a small hollow cylinder jutting out from the bottom of the cone (not shown in in the picture) through which coffee drains (like a typical funnel). And when you insert this cylinder into the narrow neck of a carafe or thermos it is absolutely rock solid. On my Zojirushi, it is asif they were made for each other. If you needed to use this make coffee for a cup or mug then you probably are better off with the Melitta one cup cone.

I ground my beans extra fine for cone filters and it took 3 minutes to make 1L of great coffee.I don't know that may be way too long for some people (as others did not post times I can't say) but it's perfectly fine for me.So at least for me the claim of being too slow was just not true.

I can't wait until the weekend.I usually percolate a pot of coffee and read the paper and some books to pass away the morning before exercising and doing household chores.
====================
It's been over half a year since I bought the cone and have nothing but good experiences with it.I like it so much I bought another so I could make a pot of coffee at work.I have noticed that with extremely fine ground coffee (where the grounds turn to mud in the filter), the drainage is slower but you can try stirring the grounds as it drains, putting in the filter at a 90 degree angle to keep the filter from sticking against the sides of cone.I've never had a persitant problem of slow drainage. In any case, every day I use this cone to make a litre of coffee. It takes me less than 10 minutes to grind the beans, make the coffee, cleanup and walk back to my desk where all my coworkers fight amongst themselves as to who gets to drink my coffee a litre goes pretty fast when you've got five people drinking it.

I don't claim that everyone will have this experience but as I said for someone who just wants a cup of coffee in the morning and some to share with friends, this has been a wonderful purchase.

Review of Melitta U S A Inc 640007 Perfect Brew Filter Cone

I like this product. It is inexpensive, has filters that can be found anywhere, and provides real coffee taste in instant coffee quantities and time. This is great for me, because I do not drink more than 1 cup at a time, and making any more would just waste coffee time and money.

This cone allows you to come up with your own perfect brewing recipe without wasting pounds and pounds of coffee. The way the beans are roasted, the quality of those beans, the amount of coffee grounds you use and how they're ground, the temperature of the water: all of these have a bearing on the taste of your coffee.

First, the water:
The industry standard for the ideal cup of coffee begins with a water temperature of 195-205 degrees. This is not quite boiling, which is why the "Monsieur Brew" brands make such bad coffee. Brewing with water at the boiling point over-extracts the beans, making for an overly bitter-tasting result.
Use a food thermometer to find this temperature range and use it with 2 tablespoons of coffee per 8 ounce cup of output as a starting point. Then vary the amount of grounds and water temperature as you see fit.

Now for the grind and blend of your coffee beans:
Melitta recommends that you get a coffee ground a little finer than the standard drip grind. You can easily get this done in one of the better supermarkets that has a coffee grinder for specialty coffees.

As for the blend, I'm not going to recommend brands, but the hallmark of inferior blends of coffee is that they start tasting sharp and nasty as they cool down. If this still happens with your Melitta filter after you've used the right amount of coffee and the right temperature of water, then you can blame it on your daily grind. With this filter you will quickly find which brands are good and which are bad in a matter of cups, not pots.

After this, keeping a couple of brief notes on what you do and how much stuff you use per cup will lead you to the best recipe for your kind of coffee in a relatively short period of time.

Review of Melitta Ready Set Joe Mug & Cone Coffee Maker - Red - 64074

Melitta Ready Set Joe Mug & Cone Coffee Maker - Red - 64074

This is an ingenious concept---a miniature manual drip "coffeemaker" for one cup.I saw this in my local grocery store for $6, and I thought, "Why not give it a try?"I'm really glad I did. It makes a great single cup of coffee, so it's convenient to take to work or to keep on hand if you just want one cup of coffee. Also, it's so small that it's easy to store it. Some tips to keep in mind as you make a cup of coffee:

1) A course grind doesn't work as well with this. If you use a course grind, your coffee will be weak.I have a burr grinder and use a medium/fine grind. It's perfect.

2) The perfect tempature for coffee is somewhere around 206 degrees. I don't bother with a thermometer, but I just bring about 1 1/2 cups of water to boil in the microwave (using a Pyrex cup). I let it boil, and then just let it rest for about 30 seconds or so.

3) Pour enough water in to cover the grinds. You'll see it foam up at the top (if your coffee is fresh).Let that water flow through. This initial "soaking" of the grinds is important to extracting the flavor.

4) Finally, just pour the remaining water through (or however much you need to fill your coffee cup). The slower you pour, the stronger the coffee.

It sounds complicated, but believe me, it was really quick--quicker than making a cup of coffee in an automatic drip coffeemaker.

It's rare to find something that is cheap and works great, but this is just such a product.

Review of Melitta Cone Filter Manual Coffeemaker

Melitta Cone Filter Manual Coffeemaker
Average Reviews:

When you have the money and want a fancy manual drip maker, you can look at Chemex or Bodum. But, if you want good coffee at a good price, this is it. In our day coffee came in a 16 oz can and we drank whatever was cheapest. Now kids know the difference between Robusta and Arabica and go to a local roaster on the day their regional favorite is being roasted. Fancy Auto-Drip machines don't heat the water hot enough, build up calcium, and don't immerse all the grind correctly. French pots let silt and bitter elements of the coffee through. This method takes some time and effort, but if you like good coffee, its worth it. This coffee maker goes for about the price as a bag of good coffee.

This coffee maker is super! My office has access to hot water, but not enough space for a traditional coffee maker.Ready Set Joe, was the answer.A delicious cup of hot coffee, with just the pouring of hot water. Everything is here, and only takes the space of a coffee mug.Low tech, high quality, that's how I define it.
